Canton For All People officially cut the ribbon on Newton Family Apartments. About 100 people joined the celebration including partners, developers and philanthropic supporters.
Sharing about the project included Don Ackerman, executive director of Canton For All People, and Gino Haynes, deputy director of Canton For All People, City of Canton Mayor William V. Sherer ll, and Erica Green, regional vice president of Woda Cooper Companies, Inc.
“We want to figure out a practical sustainable way and build some infrastructure that supports the people who live here in Canton,” said Gino Haynes, the deputy director of Canton For All People.
Residents shared about their experience living in the apartments. Canton For All People also received recognition from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office.
Afterwards, those in attendance were able to tour the property visit various apartments units.
About the project:
In 2022, Canton For All People worked with the City of Canton on the purchase and demolition of the Canton Inn, a place known for high crime. Then, plans for a better future for the community began evolving into the idea of an income-based apartment complex. Construction began in December 2024 and finished April 2026.
Newton Family Apartments is a 52-unit apartment complex geared toward families with rentals ranging from $350 to $1,050 a month Canton For All People raised capital and partnered with the Woda Cooper Company. Amenities include a playground, a new office space for Canton For All People, a community room, fitness facility and 52 units of one-, two-and three-bedroom sized units for affordable living for the community.
