Homeowner Improvement Program

The Homeowner Improvement Program provides critical home repairs to low-income homeowners in the City of Canton, Ohio, helping residents remain safely and stably housed. Through a $1.5 million Affordable Housing Program (AHP) award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, Canton for All People will complete repairs up to $15,000 for owner-occupied homes in the City of Canton, Ohio.

This program focuses on emergency and critical repairs that address serious safety, health, and habitability issues.

Priority will be given for the majority minority census tracts.

Typical repairs include:

  • Roof repairs
  • Windows, doors, and siding improvements
  • Plumbing and emergency water issues
  • HVAC replacement
  • Electrical repairs
  • Accessibility modifications

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for assistance through the Homeowner Improvement Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Ownership & Residency
    • Must own and occupy the home as a primary residence
    • Property must be located in Canton or Stark County, Ohio
  2. Income Limits
    • Household income must be at or below 50% of Area Median Income (AMI)
    • Priority is given to households at or below 30% AMI when possible
  3. Special Needs Priority
    While all eligible low-income homeowners may apply, priority is given to:

    • Majority minority
    • Seniors (age 60+)
    • Individuals with physical or developmental disabilities
    • Households with special needs
  4. Repair Needs
    • Home must have critical repair needs affecting safety or habitability
    • An on-site inspection will be conducted to confirm scope of work
  5. Program Participation
    • Complete program intake and verification
    • Provide income documentation and proof of ownership
    • Participate in required financial literacy counseling
